Following the death of John Hammond, InGen was acquired by Masrani Global in 1998, in accordance with the bioengineering company’s founder’s last wish to pass his legacy to his long-time  friend's son, Simon Masrani. The same year, they started working on plans for the Jurassic Park's second incarnation.
